You Should All Take a Walk on the Yellow Brick Road
By Dominique Williams – East Anchorage High School
The opening night of the Wizard of Oz on April 27, 2010 was a fun and whimsical night in Anchorage. All the actors lit up the stage with their flawless performance. The classic, “Over the Rainbow,” started the night with energy from the young lead, Cassie Okenka.
As the story went on the musicality and intensity became stronger. From the ensemble the audience was wowed with dance moves and more. A favorite piece of the night was “Jitterbug,” where both leads and the ensemble took part in a jazzy dance extravaganza. The special effects in this were also striking. From the digital projections to the sound and the lights this truly created a world all it’s own, and brought the audience to Emerald City.
This musical stayed true to the classic and stayed entertaining. The plot was rich and expressed the talent all of these actors posses. This is a performance all ages would love and will not want to miss. Hopefully you are all off the see The Wizard, the wonderful “Wizard of Oz!”
